The Sim
The story of the Starship Ulysses begins in the 23rd century, roughly four years before the outbreak of war at the Battle of the Binary Stars. On Stardate 29651.06, starships Ulysses and Zheng He entered orbit of the third moon of Isonzo IV. There, Starfleet and the Federation Science Council were allowing a live stream by the Federation News Network to document the discovery of alien ruins connected to a find on Earth several years prior.
Our SIm is the story of the disappearance of the Ulysses, and her sister ship, the Zheng He. Assumed to be lost by Starfleet, the crew survived an ordeal that threw their tiny vessel almost 1,500 light-years from Federation space, deep into the Alpha Quadrant wilderness. Alone on a ship never meant for deep space exploration and without their senior staff, the crew of the Ulysses has a pivotal choice. Do they find a new home, or do they brave the 1,500 light-year journey home, one that will take years? Weighing on their minds is the fate of the Zheng He and of their crewmates left behind on that icy moon.

Star Trek: Ulysses is pulling from a number of Star Trek scenarios in a sort of "what if." The Sim uses the backdrop of Star Trek Discovery's refresh, and the more "Human grit" of the 23rd century.
We are also pulling tropes from Star Trek Voyager's "epic journey home" as well.
Ulysses is only half-again the size of the Defiant and only 25% larger than an NX-class! So we are a small ship in a big universe without the resources of a Constitution-class.Finally, Reece and Kyle came together and brainstormed, "What would it be like if Lower Decks characters had to step up and assume larger roles in their ship? How do they contend with their relative lack of command training? How do they deal with crises? How do they reckon with reduced resources?
