Character Outline

Summary Bryden Guidry, MD, born and raised on Tau Ceti III. Parents were William Guidry and Anette Guidry nee Keahi, a marine biologist and a medical researcher respectively. Bryden learned at his parents knees as they took him with them on research trips beneath the waves on Tau Ceti III, his father cataloguing the marine fauna and his mother researching the medicinal qualities of various lifeforms unique to the Tau Ceti IV marine ecosystem. Spending his formative years in this way, Bryden was more familiar with the inside of pressurized subs and ocean platforms than with 'dry land'. When he tested through primary education he was accepted to Tau Ceti University on Tau Ceti IV. He did most of his course work remotely, continuing to take larger parts in his parents research. He graduated early while only having spent two full semesters physically at the university, the rest of his time he continued to be on the ocean. He then went onto Starfleet Academy to become a Medical Officer, earning his MD on the way. The USS Ulysses is his first assignment, and he hopes to be able to take what he learns as a Starfleet Officer and use it to develop a fleet of mobile clinics on Tau Ceti III.
External Conflicts Bryden stayed to himself through much of his youth, though there were various research assistants that came and went. A possible story hook could be a former research assistant of his parents (one or both) crossing his path and blaming either Bryden or his parents for a specific barrier to his career advancement. Something could have happened that Bryden messed up an experiment, ruining a year or so of research for the person during their schooling, which the person blames for being kept behind or in a lower graduating position. Or the person could have attempted to do something truly heinous and Bryden intervened, and his parents made sure a black mark was on the persons record.

During his time at either Tau Ceti University or Starfleet Medical Academy, a person could have been a rival in a team sport such as swimming or water polo, that Bryden beat them at, and the person wants to prove they are better.

I am game for anything, honestly.
Internal Conflicts I don't have the full story fleshed out just yet, but when Bryden was younger a medical emergency while his family and others were on a research trip to the midnight zone of Tau Ceti III ended up with someone dead. This is going to be part of the impetus for his ambition to create a fleet of mobile medical clinics on Tau Ceti III, but also is a fear of his, that he will be lacking in whatever skill he may need to save lives when the time comes. He knows he has skills, and he has knowledge, but it hasn't ever really been tested.

Personality & Traits

Sexual Orientation Ambiguous
General Overview Bryden has a fairly positive attitude, he smiles easily and is protective of friends and family. He enjoys his work, and is willing to talk about almost any subject he knows of, and quite obviously yearns to learn more.

Personal Goals Bryden wants to spend time among the stars as a doctor, seeing places and helping people before going back to Tau Ceti III and setting up a small fleet of mobile clinics. With the similarities between travel on a starship and travel on an ocean going vessel, he feels this is a good way to get skills and see what types of people he would need.
Hobbies & Interests Bryden practices Tai Chi and Yoga daily, and he enjoys spending time chatting with people. He enjoys team or partner sports for both the social aspect and to have someone to compete with. Otherwise he tends to get lost in studies and stargazing.

Personal History

Early Life Born and raised on Tau Ceti III. After that he applied for Starfleet Medical Academy and was accepted.
Academy Life At the Academy, his background allowed him to excel in the research classes. Some of his mother's findings were getting worked into the curriculum, so he found himself giving anecdotes in class on various topics of what some called frontier medicine. He found that he enjoyed the social aspects of classes, having spent little time in such a space on Tau Ceti IV. While at the academy, he got into practicing Tai Chi and Yoga with several other students. It was an unusual practice to him, but he enjoyed it to the point that it became a daily part of his routine. He graduated in the top third of his class, though neither Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude.
Starfleet Career The USS Ulysses is Brydens first deployment with Starfleet.
